Your Cannabis Use Deserves Intention
There was a period of time when I would find myself consuming with no intention at all. Sometimes I’d even end up feeling groggy, because I wasn’t keeping track of my experience and kept using strains that didn’t actually work for me. 🥹
Especially during my time in Germany, I often felt anxious during my sesh and couldn’t figure out why. But once I started tracking where I got my greens from, it all made sense. The times I felt that way were always linked to products I didn’t buy from a licensed store.
I’m all for recreational use, but I think it’s especially important for recreational users to practise intentional consumption, because we’re choosing the plant mostly without professional advice.
That can be as simple as taking a few moments before you reach for the plant—filling out some basic info about the plant type, phytocannabinoid profile, terpene content, and asking yourself: What do I want from this experience?
What Is a Cannabis Strain Journal?
A Cannabis Strain Journal is your go-to workbook (or Canva template!) for logging:
-
Strain name & source (dispensary vs. unlicensed)
-
Phytocannabinoid profile (THC/CBD ratio)
-
Dominant terpenes (Limonene, Linalool, Caryophyllene, Myrcene, etc.)
-
Desired outcome (Creativity, Focus, Recovery)
-
Actual effect & mood notes
-
Flavor, aroma, session date/time
Spending just a minute filling out these fields before you light up helps you:
-
Align each strain with your mood and goals.
-
Avoid repeats of groggy or anxious nights.
-
Build a personalized strain “playbook” that actually works for you.
Why Track Different Strains?
Not all cannabis is created equal. Tracking lets you discover which varieties:
-
Spark creativity when you need an idea boost
-
Sharpen focus without the jitters
-
Aid recovery post–workout or at day’s end
By understanding your unique preferences, cannabis transforms from a guessing game into a powerful, customizable tool.
What I’ve Learned from My Strain Journaling
Through tracking my strains, I’ve discovered that my body’s endocannabinoid system responds exceptionally well to a specific blend of terpenes—Limonene, Linalool, Caryophyllene, and Myrcene—when paired with high levels of THC.
- Limonene & Linalool: Limonene gives me a burst of energy, while Linalool offers sedative properties. This unique balance helps prevent me from getting overly absorbed in work and keeps me focused on my priorities.
- Caryophyllene: This terpene calms my brain, allowing me to enjoy the process of building and creating without feeling overwhelmed.
- Myrcene: Myrcene seems to enhance THC’s effects synergistically. While this is ideal for me—as I’ve been a longtime THC enthusiast—it might explain why some customers have found the experience too intense.
Next Step Now, I bring this insight to my budtender conversations and ask if they have products with that terpene blend. I also enjoy browsing online forums to see if other green queens have had similar experiences. If you haven’t started tracking yet, this is your sign—your perfect match might be just a journal entry away.

Being able to turn strain reviews into cute designs has been my favourite thing so far.
Finding a strain that works for you takes time, but you’ll get there through experimenting. 🥰
It’s all about understanding your patterns and, by tracking your experience, you choose what truly supports and doesn’t. Enjoy the process. 🌦️
